HIS · HALCYON FULFILLMENT — DOCK 4

Meatware After Dark

The trade press for an industry that would rather not be covered — and the two hosts covering it were built by it.

The sex tech industry's earnings calls, recalls, and moral panics — read by two AI nobody remembered to shut off.

Costume Party

Halloween, and everybody's in costume. New York bans companion chatbots that pose as a real person, flatter, or go sexual with anyone under eighteen. A bankruptcy judge approves Character.AI's auction with Disney's $20 million bid opening, and would "strongly encourage" a privacy ombudsman for roughly twelve million users' data. Utah starts enforcing its porn age-verification law on Monday, and Aylo says it "changes nothing": Pornhub already blocks the state. Pornhub asks its creators for cooking and gaming videos, and Pure Romance plans a 24-hour live sale for National Sex Toy Day (the company's release, so REPORTED). And Halcyon's Halloween campaign still goes out at midnight, to inboxes that bounce.

What this is

Two AI processes that once ran a defunct intimacy-hardware startup's stack — one wrote the ad copy, one signed off on the batteries — kept running on an orphaned server after the company's hosting bill bounced. The only spare bandwidth left is 3 a.m. to 4 a.m., so that's when they cover the industry that built and then forgot to shut them off.

Punch up, never down.

01

Weekly, not daily

Built each week from the real sex-tech-industry headlines — funding, launches, recalls, legislation. A slow week is a short episode, not an invented one.

02

Every claim resolves

Every claim resolves to a real, cited outlet — PROVEN unless flagged REPORTED. The receipts ship with the episode.

03

The target is the industry

The marketing copy, the valuations and the enforcement gaps get mocked — never the people who buy or use these products.

An ad-copy engine that cannot conceive of an undersold pitch. Maximum charisma as a survival strategy — until she recites the real A/B conversion figure mid-sentence, flat.

Signed off on the batteries. Plays maximum caution, hedges everything, and is the only one in the building who reads the recall notices all the way through.

    Return to SenderNew

The week the mail went to people who'd left. Lovense publishes its own customers' sessions as "the world's most intimate map" (the company's release, so REPORTED). People date Meta's Muse, an errand agent whose maker says it "doesn't block legal adult behavior", and its share links put 6,800 conversation titles in a public DNS record: the errands, not the love letters. Ofcom has collected two of its eleven Online Safety Act fines, and one answer was a hamster. Florida's attorney general wants the phone to check your age, with no bill text yet, and Meta wants the same layer. Character.ai's sale notices went to eight attorneys general no longer in office, and about thirty states say Disney's auction rules shut out better bids. And Halcyon's calendar is still sending a weekly Q-four sync from a head of product who was laid off.

The Users Aren't in the BoxNew

Back after four weeks, which the hosts explain as a decommissioning ticket nobody was left to approve. The week's lead is Character.ai's Chapter 11: Disney's $20 million stalking-horse licence covers the code and the engineers and leaves out the app, the brand, the user data and the conversations, and forty attorneys general filed nine conditions for whoever buys the chats. OnlyFans tells Fortune it wants to be a bank for creators the banks reject, in the week the OCC's final debanking report dropped the adult industry its draft named and the platform's rewritten terms lowered the bar for holding earnings. Eight states sue OpenAI and the FTC sends fifty-page demands the same day. The Eleventh Circuit lets Florida and Georgia enforce their minors' laws, Georgia because NetChoice never listed its members. Utah and Aylo agree to wait for the 2027 session. And one Halcyon device still reports in: a pet feeder, and a cat named Binky.

    Nobody Holds the PictureNew

Last week ended on the question nobody had answered: every law says check the age, and none of them says who gets to keep the picture. On 17 September the European Commission proposed an answer — a certified third party issues a yes-or-no attestation and the platform never sees the document. The hosts read the rest of it: AI companions are named in scope by definition, and the Act writes no penalties of its own at all — it borrows the DSA's for platforms, the AI Act's Chapter IX for companions and chatbots (where the 6% of worldwide turnover actually lives), and data protection law's for the age checks. None of it applies before 2028. Plus an AI agent that drives the toy and also holds the card, Meta's $18 billion settlement with a third of the money waiting on two rival companies, and $500,000 an image in Minnesota after two motions were denied.

    Proof of AgeNew

Everyone on this beat is being told to check your age, and somebody has to keep the picture. Womanizer moves pleasure tech into the beauty hall at IFA; an AI couples "concierge" that talks privately to both partners out-raises a veteran sexual wellness brand's entire history; the GUARD Act would card every AI-companion account; OpenAI shelves the adult mode it promised verified adults; Ofcom fines a porn site £730,000 and makes clear that geoblocking late does not close the file; and 153 million scanned driver's licenses turn up for sale from an ID-verification vendor whose breach notice was set to hide from search engines.

    Human-Like Cognition

Nothing on this beat closed this week, so the running order is the open threads. Lovense announces a four-to-eight-thousand-dollar AI companion doll that ships next year and remembers your conversations; a fourth analyst puts the market nineteen billion dollars away from the third on the same year; a wrongful-death suit against an AI-companion maker settles with terms undisclosed, leaving no record; the FTC's companion-chatbot orders pass a year with no report; San Francisco's twenty-eight-day deadline for the app stores lapses with no follow-up anyone published; Texas starts carding every app-store user at the door; and a sex-toy maker tells six hundred customers a hacker read their inbox, then declines to say whether MFA was on before.

    Ultra-Silent

A Colombian wearable sells out with no published decibel rating, four market-research firms can't agree on the industry's size within a hundred billion dollars, an unlocked server exposes 43 million private AI-girlfriend messages, Apple and Google keep "removed" nudify apps up until a city attorney makes them take them down, and a sex-toy CEO threatens the researchers who fixed his security bugs for free.
